Absolutely loved this classic 1938 novel Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. I read this a while ago and it was considered ‘gothic’ but it’s since been called the ‘original psychological thriller’ for its brilliant portrayal of a young wife who becomes obsessed with her husband’s deceased first wife. I watched the 2020 movie adaptation on Netflix, and although it was good, it wasn’t as good as the book (which I would say as, being a proud bookworm, I think every book is better than the movie lol). Have you read it? What did you think? Comment below and let me know. Here's the blurb: Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again . . . The novel begins in Monte Carlo, where our heroine is swept off her feet by the dashing widower Maxim de Winter and his sudden proposal of marriage. Orphaned and working as a lady's maid, she can barely believe her luck. It is only when they arrive at his massive country estate that she realizes how large a shadow his late wife will cast over their lives - presenting her with a lingering evil that threatens to destroy their marriage from beyond the grave.
